You pick it up and see it is called a “fake book.” An odd name for a real book. You open it up and see that it contains music. So what exactly is it. Fake Books are often massive collections with notated melody line, chord symbols, and complete lyrics. These are the mainstay of professional musicians. There are many different kinds of sheet music available. If you play the piano, you may already have plenty of "piano" music available a popular format for many song books.
