I bought Mughal's book three weeks ago. I should have bought it long time back.

This book covers all topics covered by the JCP exam. If you have taken a course in other computer languages and not dumb , then you should be able to read this book without any difficulties. The layout of the book is precise.

All explanations are concise. Unlike Java Language Specification which is written for computer scientists, this book is written for programmers. All explanations are in plain English. The exercises at the back of each chapter are excellent. If you can clear all the questions at the back of every chapter, you should have no problem passing the exam!

As far as the JCP exam, none of them beats Mughal's book. This is not only the best book to prepare for Java Certification, but it obviously is one of the best guides to master Java.

The comprehensive and in-depth coverage of the language makes it invaluable as a manual and as a guide for practical programming. It covers virtually all essential aspects of the Java language. The book is targeted toward skilled programmers who already know Java and want to master it. The material is presented in a very systematic, well-organized order, and, what is important, it is very easy to perceive.

The examples and test questions are extremely helpful. The answers to all quizzes are accompanied by detailed explanations. Don't miss this book. This is the most comprehensive primer for the Java 2 Programmer examination that I have come across. Two of my colleagues and I all passed the examination on the first try using this guide, and the three Marcus Green practice tests available at javaranch.

I can confidently say that you will probably not see anything on the exam that isn't covered in this book. A word of caution, this book is not light reading, nor is it suitable for someone new to programming.

It covers the Java 2 platform thoroughly and is structured very much like a college text with chapter summaries and reviews. It is probably not something you are going to skim through over a weekend.

I always get suspicious when people are throwing five stars at a book. But frankly - I find no reason to remove any stars. I bought it after deciding to take the Java 2 programmer certification and after having read readers reviews on several study guids.

I was not dissapointed!

Even though I had read a couple of Java 1. It was richer in detail filled in a couple of holes , well structured making it easy for me to work through it. The exercises with answers were very helpful for me and some of them where in fact a lot more difficult than those given on the actual exam. I passed. I found it very satisfying and motivating! You still have to sweat unless you are a hot shot Java veteran but this book is much more than just a dry exam-cram!
